Although La Lunigiana, our beautiful part of la bella Italia, does not have any coastline of its own, it is but a short drive to the stunning Ligurian coast and the list of potential destinations within easy reach includes Lerici, Porto Venere, Le Cinque Terre, Monterosso al Mare, Levanto, Bonassola and Framura. It is not even necessary to take the car as the railway line from La Spezia to Genova, with its connections to Lunigiana, operates a regular service serving the Cinque Terre up to Framura and all the other resorts that stretch north-westwards along the coast. The train also provides a way of walking long stretches of the coast without having to retrace your steps or devise circular routes.

In this occasional series, I will post images and information from our frequent explorations of this fabulous stretch of coastline, which will include articles relating to the whole length of coast stretching from Lerici, La Spezia in the southeast to Genova in the northwest – thereby incorporating The Gulf of Poets, the Cinque Terre as well as the Riviera di Levante.
